Here are some restaurant recommendations from breakfast eats to gourmet dinners, and bars for those of you who want to check out Columbus' night life.

Restaurants

Spagio
Eclectic. One of Louisa’s family’s favorite restaurants serving delicious gourmet food – from wood-oven pizzas to delicious entrée’s. When visiting Columbus, Tom’s Mom, Lyn, exclaimed "This is the almost the best risotto I’ve ever eaten!" Top it all off with one of their incredible desserts. Barcelona
Serving up tasty American dishes with a Mediterranean twist, this restaurant displays the work of local artists on its brick walls. Sparkling bronze decor adds to atmosphere. 263 E. Whittier St. 443-3699. German Village.

Lindey's

Cozy, inviting fine-dining restaurant in the heart of German Village. Serve good food and a nice environment. Thursday they have live jazz and Saturday there is a classical guitarist. 169 E. Beck St. 228-4343. German Village.

Rigsby's, 

High-class food and fare in one of the trendiest Short North eateries. Live jazz on Wednesday nights. Lots of suits have power lunches here, so don't ask the valet to park your Gremlin. 698 N. High St. 461-7888. Short North. Mon. - Sat.. until 11 pm. Sun. 5 - 9 pm.

G. Michael’s

Tasty bistro food served at the Italian-American Bistro and bar. 595 S. Third St. 464-0575. German Village.

Cap City Grandview

Casual upscale dining with a menu featuring classic blue plate specials like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Sunday nights they have a live jazz band and lobsters. 299 Olentangy River Rd. 291-3663. Grandview

Mitchell’s Steak House
New steak house in town with huge portions. Located across the street from the Adam’s Mark Hotel.

Frank's Diner

Fun waitstaff who serve the usual greasy spoon grub – all which is tasty! Located in North Market, an interesting fresh food and handcraft goods market. Short North.

Katzinger's Delicatessen

New York Style Deli & Restaurant, serving HUGE and DELICIOUS sandwiches. Ordering off of their extensive menu is akin to the ‘Soup Nazi,’ but well-worth the experience!  228-DELI. 475 South Third Street. German Village.

Cup O' Joe
Sip your hot grog in this laid-back dessert coffeehouse. Couches and padded chairs are nestled with wooden tables. Popular with the college crowd to the business crowd. Coffee desert house - Espresso - Desserts - Pastries 627 S. Third St. 221-1JOE. German Village.


Bars and Dance Clubs

K2U

For a hip taste of downtown, you can't miss with a visit to K2U. The spot is a favorite among young up-and-comers and the "beautiful" set, as well as well-heeled artsy types. The martinis are fab, as is the inspired menu--no bar food here. Decor is lively with the large famous facade mural especially interesting. Every Monday, local and national jazz acts grace the bar. 641 N. High St. 461-4766. Short North.

Brian Boru's

Signs out front tout "spirits" and "provisions" but we know it as the place where nobody knows your name. Live music Friday and Saturday. 647 N. High St. 221-1250. Short North.

Mac's

A little tartan with your beer? Mac's, located in the Short North district, is a hub of a pub. From the Scottish/gold decor to the variety of suds on tap, the pub offers libations as well as Scottish food fare. There are pool tables for sticks and TVs for sports. 693 N. High St. 221-6227. Chelsie's
This Short North live music bar swings on the musical scale from Sunday night reggae blowouts with the Ark Band to national bands to popular local scenesters playing everything from alternative, hip-hop or tie-dye trip rock. Sparse decor, but huge bar, suits the raw tunes just fine. 980 N. High St. 297-1682. Short North.

Ludlow's Bar and The Patio

National acts and popular local favorites perform on the weekends in this large Brewery District hang-out. And they have a pool table too. 485 S. Front St. 224-1212. Brewery District.

Barrister Hall
The latest in trendy Scotch and cigar bar. Live jazz for all you hep cats out there. 560 S. High St. 621-1213. Brewery District.

Hoster Brewing Co.

The King of the Brewery District, Hoster's is great place to grab an on-site brewed mug o' suds as well as some of grub, from Cajun to classic--great by bar food standards. Can get a singles feel to it on the weekends when some of the best local acts take to the stage. Definitely a khaki sort of joint. 550 S. High St. 228-6066. Brewery District.

High Beck

Cold drafts and live tunes on the weekend. Great patio for people watching during the warmer seasons. 564 S. High St. 224-0886. Brewery District.

Tommy Keegan's

Imports and micro-brews. Acoustic local bands on the weekends Thu-Sat 9:30 pm - close. 456 S. Front St. 221-9444. Brewery District.

Dance Clubs

Mekka

A pumpin' soundtrack guaranteed to drive you onto the dance floor. The house music is so fresh, you've never heard of it until you find yourself getting down on the huge dance floor. The place sports a hyper-cool industrial motif. 382 Dublin Ave. 621-2582. Downtown.

Red Zone

One of Columbus' largest nightclubs, with seven rooms, five bars and three dance floors. Wednesdays are swing night and Friday is Rotation night, dedicated to the underground club scene. National and local DJs spin here. 303 S. Front St. 470-4998. Downtown.

Short North Tavern

Kinda like your grandfather's bar, assuming your grandfather really liked to tie one on now and then. Wooden booth decor holds true to real "tavern" look and menu includes veggie burgers. Check out the old pictures of the neighborhood before its renovation into Yuppie central. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. 674 N. High St. 221-2432. Short North.

Flatiron Bar and Grill

Situated in a replica of the famous New York building, the Flatiron serves up delicious food--po'boys and other exotic sandwiches--as well as cigars, Scotch and jazz every Saturday night. 129 E. Nationwide Blvd. 461-0033. Downtown.

Juergen's

Bakery and European Cafe. Old Alpine music every Saturday. Authentic classic German decor with various artists work on the wall. Try the pastries in the bakery. 525 S. Fourth St. 224-6858. German Village.
